Update an existing menu

Change a navigation label or order in a menu your website already uses.

You need

Menu access, the correct environment, and confirmation from your agency of which menu controls the relevant navigation.

Steps

Open Menu Builder

Open CMS → Menu Builder.

Select the agreed menu

Select the agreed menu in Menus. Read its Menu Items.

Rename a visible link

To rename a visible link, select that item's pencil icon. In Edit Menu Item, change Label but leave the destination unchanged. Select Update.

Change the item position

To change an item's position, use the up and down arrow icons beside the item. Make child of above item creates a nested item. Move to parent level moves it out of that nesting.

Wait for the menu to save

Changes save automatically. Wait for Saving… to finish and Saved to appear before leaving or selecting another menu. Unsaved means you should not leave yet.

Check the navigation in preview

Open Site Preview and check the actual navigation at Desktop and Mobile sizes. If it was a Development edit, request agency publication.

Expected result: The selected menu's stored labels and order change in the current environment. The change appears wherever the website uses that menu.

Select Add Item. Enter Label, select Link Type, then choose Page and the existing destination page, or Custom URL and its URL.

Select Add, then wait for Saved. Check that a page destination is enabled and that the link works in preview.

The menu builder is not a guarantee that a destination is public or available. A menu entry pointing at a disabled page can still lead visitors to an unavailable destination.

Cautions: There is no publication-review barrier around auto-save in Live. Changing one menu can affect many pages. Removing a parent item can also affect nested items, so do not use the trash icon casually. Creating a new menu does not automatically connect it to the website's header. Ask your agency before changing nesting or destinations.
