Edit a blog post
Update an existing article and understand its publication status.
You need
A site that uses Blogs, permission to edit posts, and a confirmed editing environment.
Steps
Find the post
Open Modules → Blogs. Use Filter... to find the post. Clear the status or category filters if you cannot find it.
Open the post
Open the post using its title or the pencil edit action.
Edit the content
Edit Title, Excerpt, or Content as agreed. Use the text toolbar for headings and lists. Avoid making every heading Heading 1.
Update the featured picture
For a featured picture, select Featured Image → Select Image and complete Image Alt Text. The Insert Image toolbar action inserts an image inside Content instead.
Add or update a link
For a link, use Insert Link or Edit Link in the Content toolbar. Check Text to display and Link URL, then select Save link. This still requires saving the post.
Review publication settings
Review Status, Publish Date, and Expiry Date before selecting Save. Leave the existing Slug and Author unchanged unless the update requires them.
Confirm the update
Wait for the success message. Check the listing or detail view in Site Preview when the post is eligible to appear. If it is a Draft, review its content in the editor and ask your agency for the agreed draft review process.
The saved post is updated in your current environment, subject to its status and dates.
Status is separate from Development-to-Live publication
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not available as a published public post |
| Scheduled | Requires a future Publish Date; eligible to appear when that time arrives in the environment holding the post |
| Published | Eligible to appear subject to publication and expiry dates |
| Expired | No longer eligible as a current published post |
The editor lets you choose Draft, Scheduled, or Published. Expired can appear in the list when the expiry date has passed; it is not an extra editor choice.
A future Publish Date can make a post Scheduled even when you selected Published. The editor uses your browser's local date and time entry, so confirm the intended time with your agency. A scheduled Development post must reach Live before the intended release for Live scheduling to take effect. The editor's Will go live on… message is not proof that the post has been transferred to Live.
Saving changes to a Published post in Live can update the public article immediately. Turning an existing post into Draft can remove it from public view. Changing a slug can break shared links. Do not use bulk import, export, or delete for a routine edit.
